Vice-Chancellors' Conclave 2025: The Future of Legal Education in India Begins

Jodhpur, January 18, 2025: The Vice-Chancellors' Conclave 2025 commenced today at National Law University, Jodhpur. This two-day conclave, scheduled for January 18–19, 2025, has brought together visionary leaders, policymakers, and academic experts from across the nation. The conclave, based on the theme "The Future of Legal Education in India," serves as a platform for in-depth discussions on the evolving landscape of legal education and its adaptation to national and global needs.
The objective of this program is to encourage collaborative dialogue, foster practical perspectives, and pave the way for transformative policies in the field of legal education. The event has witnessed the participation of 22 Vice-Chancellors, who will share their views on the future of legal education.
The inaugural session was graced by Chief Guest Justice Surya Kant, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Guest of Honor Justice Sandeep Mehta, Judge, Supreme Court of India, and Chancellor NLUJ, Chief Justice of Rajasthan Justice M.M. Srivastava.
Addressing the Vice-Chancellors, Justice Surya Kant emphasized, “The future of legal education in India lies in the synthesis of traditional knowledge and emerging technologies, preparing holistic legal professionals.” He appreciated the initiative and encouraged similar discussions.
Justice Sandeep Mehta stated that legal education must align with the emerging societal challenges so that students evolve not just as lawyers but as leaders of justice and change.
Justice M.M. Srivastava remarked that innovation and interdisciplinarity are the cornerstones of a progressive legal education system that meets the demands of a dynamic world. He congratulated Professor Harpreet Kaur for organizing the program and inspired the faculty to pursue research in this direction.
Professor Harpreet Kaur, Vice-Chancellor, NLUJ, extended her gratitude to the dignitaries and remarked, “As educators, it is our responsibility to provide students with a perspective on legal education that combines academic excellence with ethical commitment.” She pledged to organize more such programs in the future to bring thought leaders together on a common platform.
The Registrar of NLUJ, Dr. Sunita Pankaj, expressed that the Vice-Chancellors' Conclave 2025 promises to be a historic event. She stated that this conclave would culminate in a collective resolution defining a robust and inclusive framework for legal education. She acknowledged the efforts of the NLUJ faculty, students, and staff in preparing for and ensuring the success of the event.
