National Law University, Jodhpur held its 18th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday with solemn dignity, marking a significant milestone in the University’s Silver Jubilee Year, celebrating 25 years of excellence in legal education.
The Convocation was graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Chief Justice of India, as the Chief Guest, who delivered the Convocation Address. The ceremony was presided over by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, Acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court and Chancellor, NLU Jodhpur, and was specially graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Member, General Council, NLU Jodhpur.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sandeep Mehta, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Visitor, NLU Jodhpur, attended the Convocation as the Guest of Honour.
The ceremony was also attended by Hon’ble Dr. Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati, Judge, Rajasthan High Court; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dinesh Mehta, Judge, Delhi High Court; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vinit Kumar Mathur, Judge, Rajasthan High Court; along with several sitting and former judges of the Rajasthan High Court, members of the University’s statutory bodies, faculty members, parents, and students.
In his Convocation Address, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Chief Justice of India described law as a living and evolving forum rather than a static fortress, observing that the law is never a finished product but must continuously respond to social change. He underscored that legal education is a public trust, urging graduates to make the law more accessible, inclusive, and intelligible, and to ensure that professional excellence is always guided by constitutional morality, integrity, and compassion.
Addressing the graduating students, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sandeep Mehta emphasised that law is a calling rooted in conscience, reminding graduates that courts forgive errors but never dishonesty. He cautioned against professional burnout and anonymity, encouraged resilience—particularly in litigation—and urged students to view success not merely in personal terms but through service to justice, society, and constitutional values.
Welcoming the dignitaries, Prof. (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, presented the Annual Report and reflected upon the University’s 25-year journey under the theme “25 Barsan Ro Gaurav, Sadiyan Ro Sankalp.” She highlighted NLU Jodhpur’s sustained academic growth, curriculum reforms aligned with national education frameworks, expansion of interdisciplinary programmes, and leadership in Research, Law and Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Access to Justice, and Public Policy. Emphasising community-building and student welfare, she reaffirmed the University’s commitment to inclusive education, ethical leadership, and nation-building.
During the Convocation, degrees were conferred upon 176 students, comprising 124 undergraduate, 49 postgraduate, and 3 doctoral scholars who successfully completed their programmes in the year 2025. A total of 24 Gold Medals were awarded to meritorious students for outstanding academic performance.
The smooth and effective conduct of the Convocation was facilitated under the stewardship of Dr. Sunita Pankaj (RAS), Registrar, National Law University, Jodhpur.
Held as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, the Convocation reaffirmed NLU Jodhpur’s standing as a leading institution contributing to legal scholarship, judicial discourse, and nation-building. The ceremony concluded with an exhortation to the graduating students to carry forward the values of integrity, excellence, service, and constitutional commitment as ambassadors of National Law University, Jodhpur.
