NLUJ-CIPS Successfully Hosts National Virtual Workshop on “Sports and Intellectual Property” on World Intellectual Property Day on 26 th April, 2026

National Law University, Jodhpur, through its Centre for Intellectual Property Studies (CIPS), successfully organised a National Virtual Workshop on Sports and Intellectual Property on 26 April 2026, to commemorate World Intellectual Property Day on the theme "IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate". The workshop was conceptualised and organised under the esteemed guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, National Law University, Jodhpur.

The workshop brought together eminent experts, academicians, professionals, and students from across the country to deliberate on the evolving interface between intellectual property law and the modern sports industry. The programme featured a keynote address by Dr. B. P. Singh, Former Joint Controller of Patents and Designs and Technical Member of the erstwhile Intellectual Property Appellate Board, along with the opening address by Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Dean (Academics), National Law University, Jodhpur. Through insightful technical sessions on copyright in sports media, trademark protection and athlete branding, and innovation in sports technologies, the workshop offered a meaningful platform to examine the growing role of intellectual property in shaping the future of sport.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than hundred participants from across the country, including members of academia, industry professionals, legal practitioners, researchers, and students, along with participants from within the University. The workshop helped the stakeholders examine the evolving interface between intellectual property law and the contemporary sports industry, where innovation, branding, and media rights are integral to its growth and governance.
