The Centre for Tax Laws at NLU Jodhpur organized a two-day lecture series on the Goods and Services Tax, on August 18 and 19, 2017, covering three topics:
1. An Overview on the Implementation of the GST
2. The Legal Challenges to the GST - Analysing the Constitutional Amendment
3. Practical Implications of the GST
Mr. Tarun Jain, Principal Attorney (Tax specialisation), BMR Legal, New Delhi (NLUJ Batch of 2007) delivered the lectures. He holds a Masters degree in law with specialization in taxation from the London School of Economics and has had successful stints as a taxation attorney in Economic Laws Practice and Lakshmi Kumaran &Sridharan. He has authored many articles in the field of indirect taxation and his views especially on the GST, have been widely proclaimed. He recently authored a book titled 'GST: Constitutional Law and Policy'.
Mr. Loharand Mr.Kasyap, Assistant Commissioners from the Commercial Tax Department, Jodhpur also graced the event, and delivered short lectures on their experiences in the GST regime, and its benefits. All sessions were followed by an interactive question and answer round with the students and faculty.
The attendees, especially the students, greatly benefited from Mr. Tarun Jain sharing his expertise in the area, and his ability to answer all questions effectively demonstrated the command he has over the intricacies of the GST system.
