Workshop on ‘Fashion & IPR’ on 13th September 2014 in collaboration with NIFT, Jodhpur

The Indian Fashion market is growing day by day. Indian fashion houses are doing well in abroad also. “Fashion Weeks” are increasing in number in India which is enhancing the market and creativity. There is no doubt that the fashion industry is having terrific value of intellectual investment for high fashion or ready-to-wear, Levis, Lee-cooper, the Vera Wang wedding dress, Louis Vuitton, Gucci handbag – all these are products of applied intellectual creativity and skill in the fashion industry. Design copying is widely accepted, occasionally complained about, but more often celebrated as “homage” rather than attacked as “piracy”. But Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) has been a burning issue in this sector. Fashion designers have frequently complained about their designs being copied without their permission. Such so-called piracy must be stopped as it is plaguing the growth of this industry. The objective of this workshop is to enhance the knowledge of undergraduate and post-graduate IPR students of NLUJ and NIFT students, as this workshop will address the legal and practical perspectives of Fashion Design and IPR to deal with the challenges nationally and internationally.
MHRD Chair on IPR, National Law University, Jodhpur had organized the Workshop on ‘Fashion & IPR’ on 13th September 2014 in collaboration with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Jodhpur.
